Tech Savvy Superwomen! - My Guest Blog Post for CRAVE http://t.co/zNXho5O
As Christina Aguilera’s song goes: “what a girl wants, what a girl needs…” is her technology! The women of our times are no longer perceived as too frail but independent individuals. We are the SUPERWOMEN of this generation and rightfully so! It’s doesn’t come as a shocker to be walking down the street and seeing a well-suited woman with an iPad and iPhone in one hand and a child in the other. Technology is the new helping hand and luxury, making our world and lives a much happier place! How so? Allow me to demonstrate, with one click: a dinner party is planned, a trip is booked, and your children’s classes are registered, all accomplished in a snap while on a conference call!
Nowadays, we take technology for granted and sometimes forget to appreciate what it has done for every household. It is so integrated in our daily lives we tend to forget what life would be without it…? It’s frightening to even imagine! To further demonstrate this, here are a few applications I use and cannot live without, enjoy:
Hashable: the ultimate networking app. which allows the capability to exchange business cards, make easy intros, and ‘check-ins’ with people to track meetings and calls. Let’s not forget… GO GREEN! Not only will you be killing fewer trees, cutting cost, but will be feeling good too!
Bump: Want to share something with a friend or someone you just met? It allows you to text them for free!!!! You read it, FREE! Now that is what I call a sweet-deal!
Date Saver Platinum: Ever been on a date and needed to use the bathroom but felt embarrassed? Well, no more because the Date Saver is here to help! Phew! You can say goodbye to turning on faucets, wasting water and electricity.
Square: Start accepting credit cards today. It transforms your iPhone or iPad into an elegant point of sale. Whether you are having a garage sale or have started a small business, Square has made it easier to accept Credit Card payments on the go. WOW!
So, next time you feel like bringing out that “geeky-ness” and discover new ways to improve your life… take a tour of an App Store and see what you’ll find!

Techie-guys are Not from Mars!
“Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus” a popular phrase used nowadays thanks to the book dedicated to the matter of the sexes.
Living and dating in the Tech community, I can certainly assure you Tech-Guys are far and away from Mars… They tend to mark the point of no return just like the black hole-- reflecting nothing. This certainly explains their fashion sense, social interactions, and sense of romance =)
There is a dire need for the Tech (guy) community to get a thorough education in the art of Fashion, Romance, and Social interactions. One may disagree, but then ask yourself WHY companies, such as: GeekMeetsChic or Fashion Experts are a smashing success and in high demand by Techie-Guys requesting to change from Jeans and a T-Shirt get-up to a more trendier look? I am not one to complain; nonetheless, THEY NEED HELP!
With this note, will YOU be willing to act as a Fashion-Police to your CEO, C-Level Executive, or boss? Would you notify them that they need professional help to enhance and bring forth their hidden traits? It’s not as easy said than done. I have tried on numerous occasions by indirect hints here or there to friends and an acquaintance regarding this matter yet the message was lost in translation. Mental note: one has to be willing and only then bad habits slowly disappear.
It’s the same concept of why geeks are so eager to learn the new ways of technology and gadgets. Or simply spending hours and hours playing Video games; yet, they cannot afford to spend 5 minutes to dress themselves, style their hair, and shave. Or, my favorite to Text or call their “special” someone. What happened to chivalry? The days when a guy would make the effort to woo and sweep a girl of her feet? I know it still exists, doesn’t it?!!
It’s funny how the Techie females though are quite fashion forward. I guess we naturally have that particular DNA =) Lucky us!
So, dear readers, if you have a geeky / techie friend, do us all a favor and treat them to some coffee. Have a heart-to-heart chat with them or send them my way ;-)

So You want to Date a Start-up CEO !!!
If you live in the Bay, you just can't avoid running into someone who
will introduce themselves as the CEO / Founder/ Executive of a
Start-up...Your chances of dating one, let’s say it’s greater than anywhere else in the world! =)
Perhaps you ask yourself- is this what I really want? The answer may
be: "hey, he is smart, intelligent (went to an Ivy league School), and
can be the potential next-future Zuckerberg,” but there’s always a
catch!
Here are some things you should KNOW before you start dreaming away
and dating this fellow:
- He works hard and plays harder (make sure you are on the same schedule)!
- Most of his communication will be conducted via Skype, iPhone (txt, FaceTime), iPad, GoogleVoice… you get the gist of it. And, if you aren't tech savvy, it’s highly recommended to start learning about the various technologies by downloading different applications / software’s to connect and be “intouch” with Mr. Prince Charming.
- He may book you in his calendar, so be prepared to receive a date request via Google calendar, Outlook, FB event invite… or be waiting to hear from the PA or EA (Personal Assistant/Executive Assistant): No, I'm not kidding! It’s not the glamour and romance one expects, but as we learn in economics, time is money!
- Don't be surprised if you get the last minute cancellations to your birthday party, vacations. If you break down and cry, this is probably what you will hear: "I have obligations.” So, get the tough skin out and get used to it!
- Last but not least, don't be shocked if he shows up at an event /date in Jeans, Flip Flops and a T-shirt…make it your responsibility to give him some glimpse what Fashionista means! ;-)
Silicon Prairie News, TechCrunch, Venturebeat, GigaOm; I hope you already do!!! With this said, I am presuming you already have one or more of the following “i’s” from Apple as well: iPhone, iPad, iPad2, iPod, and
have an account with the App Store; if you don’t know what that is, then don’t even bother looking any further…. Please turnaround and date a non-techie man-- for your own sake and sanity!
A final note to keep in mind, familiarize yourself with Tech terminologies such as: Pivot, Cloud, UX, UI, and Developer; trust me, this will take you far! After all, he does want to have a conversation about work once in a while with you (actually alll the time).
Ready to face it head on? Well, Good Luck and see you at the next Tech event! ;-)
Yours truly,
S.
